2nd Opinion on Arrhythmias
What is it?

The Ergometric Test serves to evaluate cardiovascular functioning when subjected to gradually increasing physical effort on a treadmill. Symptoms, heart rate, blood pressure and electrocardiogram behavior are observed before, during and after exertion.
The main purpose of the test is to diagnose and evaluate coronary artery disease. It also assesses cardiorespiratory functional capacity, detection of arrhythmias, blood pressure abnormalities and myocardial ischemia.
Guidelines for exam day:
  • Bring the cardiological exams carried out in the last two years.
  • Bring the name and dose of medications used in the last five days.
  • In the 24 hours before the exam, the chest skin should not receive creams, ointments, tanning products or any oily substance.
  • On the day of the exam, do not exercise or drink alcoholic drinks or energy drinks that contain caffeine.
  • Smokers should not smoke on the day of the test. If this is not possible, it is necessary to avoid smoking for at least three hours before the assessment.
  • Bring comfortable clothes for exercise and shoes with rubber soles or sneakers, as well as a bath towel, slippers with rubber soles and personal hygiene products.
  • Female patients must bring a suitable gym top or bra to the unit to perform the exercise.
  • For men, it may be necessary to shave hair at some points on the chest to allow the electrodes to be attached.
  • It is possible to have a light meal up to 30 minutes before the exam. If the exercise test is in the morning, you should maintain your usual breakfast. If you go in the afternoon, you might want to have a light lunch or a sandwich with natural juice.
  • After the examination, it is recommended to avoid sunlight on the skin of the chest for a week. If sun exposure is necessary before this period, the client must use a sunscreen with an SPF greater than 30.
